CAWC Summer Party

The Club organises an annual summer event. For many years, this was a barbecue attended by over 40 members and guests. In 2006, the barbecue was replaced by a Summer Party, which was very well attended.

Superb food accompanies an array of interesting and excellent wines in an enjoyable and friendly atmosphere - the Summer Party is even more friendly and relaxed than the monthly meetings. Always a great event, irrespective of the weather!

The 2007 Summer Party was again hosted by Julia, the Club Secretary, and her husband, Andy. It was held on Saturday, 8th September. It was a great success with an excellent turnout, great wine and food and a very convivial atmosphere. Pat (and subsequently Elaine) won the Mystery Wine challenge with a Pinot Gris. Keith won the wine quiz with Norman and Julia in close pursuit. Elaine and Gordon set the challenging quiz, having won the quiz for the preceding years! The Chairman won the prize for acting as a blotter for red wine, resulting in his quick change of shirt and Elaine's Mystery Wine entry getting left in his wine-stained pocket!

A great evening was had by all. Many thanks to Julia and Andy and to all who helped make the event the usual great success. Book early tor places for next year's event, as the limited places usually book up quickly.

Wine trips

The Club now organises an annual trip to a major and interesting wine region. The first trip in 2005 was to Tuscany in Italy and the second in 2006 was to the Ribera del Duero region of Spain. The trips take place on the first weekend in May and are increasingly popular with members. The 2007 trip to Languedoc was fully booked and a great success. A report on the trip will follow soon.
